Schoolies info please?

February 16th, 2010

So I’m going to schoolies this year
and since i havent been i got a few questions

1 – Two of the people in my group have gone before and were in year 12 last year and will be 19 when schoolies is on, will that be a problem? (they don’t seem to know much and aren’t very helpful, that’s why i am asking on here)

2 – A couple of people will be 16 and are only in year 11 this year, will that be a problem?

3 – What’s all this i hear about student ID and that??? if you don’t have one, can you not go or something?

4 – What schoolies do you think was best? (gold cost, byron bay etc)

5 – Would it be best to book through the schoolies site or to just book a hotel for that week?

6 – Where is some good places to stay?

I guess they are my biggest questions and concerns…
any other information would be appreciated….such as experiences, what i should and shouldn’t do etc

thanks heaps!
=)

just don’t drink booze

as all the schoolies are drop kicks who cant handle a beer and make a goose of them selves

if you feel the need to get blind drunk and make a fool of your self please go in the surf at night, if you don’t drown hopefully the sharks will get you

and it will be another ass clown the public wont have to deal with

Best Way To Travel From Sydney to Cairns?

February 13th, 2010

I will be travelling this route from 19th Jan 2008 to 9 Feb 2008 and was looking to possibly follow this itinery:

Cairns for – 2 nights
Mission beach – 1 night
Airlie beach & whitsunday islands – 2 nights
Hervey bay & fraser island – 2 nights
Noosa – 2 night
Brisbane – 1 nights
Surfers Paradice – 2 nights
Byron Bay – 2 nights
Coffs Harbour – 1 night
Port Macquarie – 1 night
Port stephens – 1 night
Sydney – 3 nights

Its one of three options

Car rental and hotels
Campervan

Will I really have the time to travel all that distance or will I need to fly some of the way?

Loads of time but it seems like you are ticking off all the main attractions along the way. My advice is to relax so you can allow time to enjoy your visit. Sail around around the Whitsundays. Try a 3 or 4 day stay at a farm inland from Rockhampton, thats if you like horses, quad bikes, the outback, pet kangaroos, herding cattle, and sleeping under the stars. From your itinery mabe not. Anyway enjoy your trip.

Aussie Road Trip – itinerary advice/suggestions?

February 13th, 2010

Hubby and I are going to be in Redcliffe (near Brisbane) from December 21st until January 2nd. However, we are there to visit family, so chances of doing any real sight-seeing will have to wait until December 26th. We want to do a road trip along that coast but we’d like to cover Noosa Heads (and potentially anything in between) and Byron Bay (and anything in between). We thought on Dec 26th or 27th, we’d drive up 2 hours to Noosa Heads, check it out, and drive back. Then on 27th or 28th, head south, and arrange accommodation accordingly. Any ideas/suggstions on must-see places along that stretch of road? From Noosa Heads, down to Byron Bay? And what sort of time frame we should be looking at? We’re hoping to spend New Year’s Eve in Brisbane/Redcliffe with our family, so I guess we’ll only have 26th – 30th. How much can we do in that short time. We’ll have a car and will be driving everywhere. Thanks so much for any advice!
Thanks for all your suggestions, but are they doable in 3-4 days?
Hi Aussie, I thought it would be possible to do Redcliffe to Noosa in one day, because I saw on google maps that it’s a 2 hour drive. I thought on the way we could pass Mooloolaba, Kawana Waters, etc… as they’re en-route. If we set off at 7 or 8am, it should be possible, shouldn’t it? Am I being unrealistic? Thanks for your input!

The distance between Noosa Heads and Byron Bay is only 300km, not much to drive. You only have a limited time to discover places, but with a good planning it is doable, easily.

From north to south, after Noosa which is a beautiful place (+ wild koalas in the national park) drop into Eumundi, particularly if it’s Saturday, they have famous markets. Further south theres a Ginger factory near Yandina; the Big Pineapple in Nambour; Ettamogah Pub and Australia Zoo (if you get time turn into Glasshouse mountains but i doubt you will). That should be doable in one day.

South of Brisbane, on the Gold Coast are the famous theme parks however they are not very cheap so they are not worth the price unless you have half a day to spend in each. I would pick one or max two and also visit Surfers Paradise (great beach, restaurants, shopping, nightlife). That’s one day, or two.

South of the Gold Coast, Byron Bay is only a short trip away and you could spend a lot of time there, but you will see it all in one day.

Where is nice to stay in Byrons Bay Australia?

February 10th, 2010

I agree with the first answer – http://www.byron-bay.com

You can also rent houses outside of Byron Bay or stay on a farm, e.g. a lychee farm for a relaxed atmosphere.
